Hey hey! – Welcome back to another episode of the podcast. Thanks for joining me.

I’m excited to be chatting with you today and answering the question of “Do I need an email list for my podcast?”

Before we dive into the episode, I did want to remind you that my listener survey is still open and you can win a $25 gift card to Amazon if you take the survey. I appreciate each and every one of you and want to make sure that I’m only putting out content that you want to hear so it would mean the world to me if you could go and fill out that survey for me by going here.

Okay, let’s get into the episode.

So if you know me, I am big on focusing on things that you own like your podcast, an email list, your website, etc. because things like social media can go down at any minute and you can lose those followers overnight.

A perfect example is recently when my Instagram account was hacked back in September and I lost my account with 2,400 followers overnight.

If Instagram was the only way I connected with my audience, then I would have been screwed but since it’s not the only platform I focus on, it wasn’t a huge deal. Of course, it still sucked, but it wasn’t the end of the world.

When you have an email list, it’s something you own. Sure, your email marketing provider could go out of business, but you still have your list of email subscribers that you can take and import elsewhere and they’re yours as long as they haven’t unsubscribed from your email list.

So you may be wondering okay that’s great and all, but why do I need one for my podcast?

Great question.

Having consistent listeners to your podcast is great but when you have an email list they can subscribe and get updates from you via email about both your podcast and things you’re doing in your business in general and it takes that connection to a whole new level.

Your podcast should be serving as a funnel into your business so they listen to your show, then they download a freebie or purchase a low-priced product, and then the next step is to work with you at a higher level, and so on.

So I think having an email list is beneficial not just for your podcast but your business as a whole.

If you don’t currently use your podcast to grow your email list or don’t have an email list at all, I highly recommend starting one now so that you can utilize it with your podcast in 2022 and start getting those leads somewhere other than your podcast.

In a future episode, if you guys would like, I can definitely share what to send your email list about your podcast, best practices for emailing them, and more so let me know if that’s something you want to see from me.

So I want to know, do you currently have an email list for your podcast or do you plan on starting one in 2022? DM me on Instagram @jenny.suneson and let me know.
