In today’s episode, we’re chatting all about creating a newsletter for your podcast.

As someone who comes from a marketing background, I know the importance of having an email list and I think a lot of people skip this crucial part because they’re so focused on marketing their podcast on social media that they forget about the power of email marketing.

So should you start a newsletter for your podcast? My answer is yes. It gives you the opportunity to connect with your listeners on a deeper level and open up the lines of communication so that you can actually have a two-way conversation with them instead of just talking to them on a weekly basis through your episodes but having no way to know who is listening.

Now you may be wondering, okay great – but what do I even include in my podcast newsletter? Well, I’m glad you asked.

The purpose of your newsletter is to draw people into listening to the episodes so you don’t want to give them the full rundown of the episode in the newsletter – you want to give them enough to get them excited to hit play on the episode.

So I would include a quick intro paragraph, a few key bullet points, and then a link to check out the episode on your website, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify. I only recommend linking to no more than 2 additional players because you don’t want to inundate them with links.

Now, you may be wondering how you actually get people to join the newsletter. I recommend offering freebies related to your episodes to get people to sign up and then once they subscribe for one of the freebies you’re offering, then have your email marketing platform add them to your podcast newsletter list.

You can talk about these directly in your episodes in addition to having links to sign up within your episode blog posts and on your website.

So I’d love to know, do you have a newsletter for your podcast? I’d love to hear from you. Let me know over at @podcastingforentrepreneurs on Instagram.
