Ever wondered why you haven’t pulled the trigger on launching your show yet? There’s a lot of reasons why that might be but today we’re diving into the 5 mindset blocks that may be holding you back from launching your show.

5 Mindset Blocks Holding You Back From Launching Your Show

You hate your voice – One big thing I have noticed over my time of helping people launch podcasts is people struggling with how their voice sounds and letting that be the thing that stops them from taking action and hitting record on an episode.

You aren’t techy – Another big hang-up that I have seen aspiring podcasters face is the fact that they aren’t techy and they feel like podcasting involves so much tech and they don’t even know where to begin.

I’m here to tell you that all you need to start a podcast is a mic, some headphones, and a free editing software. I personally use and love Descript because you can edit the text and that also edits the audio which is a lot more user-friendly for people than trying to edit waveforms.

You don’t know what to even talk about – This is another big one that people struggle with but most people find once they start writing down topic ideas, it’s hard to stop…which is a good thing so if this is you, I encourage you to just sit down with a pen and paper and let your thoughts start flowing through.

You are too critical of yourself – I see this a lot whenever clients submit their trailer to us to edit and then they are still unhappy with the final result because they aren’t confident in their voice, what they’re saying, etc. This is a hurdle you’re going to have to leap over a lot during your first few episodes because you are new to podcasting and it might feel uncomfortable but I’m going to say what I always say about podcasting – your very first episode shouldn’t be as good as your 100th episode. There will be a big difference in confidence over time so we shouldn’t strive for perfection from day one.

You feel like there are too many shows out there already – There’s certainly no shortage of podcasts out there, especially after being cooped up in 2020 due to COVID and everyone and their mom deciding to try their hand at podcasting. So yes, there are a lot of podcasts out there but most people don’t make it past 7 episodes so don’t be afraid to put yourself out there because your voice needs to be heard.

I’d love to hear from you. What was your biggest hang-up when starting your podcast? Did any of these mindset blocks hold you back? Send me a DM over on Instagram to podcastingforentrepreneurs and let me know what you struggled with the most.
