Hey savvies. Welcome back to another episode of the podcast. In today’s episode, we’re talking all about taking time off from your podcast during the holidays.
It seems pretty crazy that the holiday season is upon us already but it’ll be here before we know it so now is the time to get prepared.
The holiday season is usually crazy busy for most of us and a lot of us end up taking off time at the end of the year to spend time with our family and friends and really take time to recharge our batteries in preparation for the New Year.
So first things first, you need to decide if you’ll be taking any time off from your podcast this holiday season and if so, how long will you be off?
I usually recommend our clients take off 2-3 weeks for their show, either the last two weeks of December or the last week of December and the first week of January.
If you’re in the US you might want to take off Thanksgiving week as well from releasing a new episode but that’s not as big of a deal.
If you plan on taking time off, you’ll need to work ahead on episodes as you likely won’t just be taking time off from releasing new episodes, but also from your business in general.
Tips to Make Taking Time Off Easy
Plan ahead – If you want to come back strong in 2023, you need to plan ahead. You don’t want to sit down the first or second week of January without a clue of what your next episode will be so before you sign off for the holidays, make sure you at least have your first episode back recorded and ready to go.
Run replays of your top episodes of the past – If you’re anti-taking time off from your podcast for the holidays, then a great way to still put out content without feeling like you need to create new episodes is to run some replays of your most popular episodes. This will give your listeners something to check out in the meantime and you won’t need to record new content.
Use this 2-3 week period as your break in between seasons – If our clients don’t have a season-based podcast, we often will use this as their break in between seasons and start working ahead of their next season’s episodes in early December before we head out for our holiday break as a company.
I’d love to know, do you take any time off from releasing new episodes during the holiday season? Let me know over on Instagram @podcastingforentrepreneurs. I’d love to hear from you.
